Welcome!
Welcome to the San Joaquin DHIA website. San Joaquin DHIA is a certified field service provider, serving the Dairy Producers of Contra Costa, Marin, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Siskiyou, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Sutter and Yolo Counties of California.
Cow testing in San Joaquin County got started in the early 1900s. In 1915 there were 17 herds on test and by 1932 there were 137 herds representing 7879 cows. The current San Joaquin DHIA was incorporated as a non-profit under the laws of the state of California on August 16, 1961. At that time, there were 210 herds and 27,236 cows. In 1993, the North Central Valley DHIA joined San Joaquin DHIA, bringing total herds and cows to 157 and 72,690. At the start of 2019, San Joaquin began servicing the North Bay area.
Today, San Joaquin DHIA is comprised of 109 herds representing 105590 cows. Each producer/member testing through San Joaquin DHIA can choose how often to test, and what information is of greatest value to them. Additionally, most of the data is managed by the test-supervisor/technician on the farm in a computer program. The amount of data collected, and way it is stored and monitored, makes it a very powerful management tool.
